Guilt

A sense of guilt is typical among victims. ‘Why did it happen to me?’ is a question asked by so many people trying to explain reasons of a crime. Frequently, victims question their behaviour to avoid anything like that happening again. For example they may think:

  • ‘If I hadn’t done that…’,
  • ‘If I had done this instead…’,
  • ‘I should have done…’

It is important to remember that victims are never guilty of suffering a crime. The only person guiltyis the perpetrator.
